Mornin Mate: How It All Began

3 min read ・ Joseph ・ Nov 20, 2024

Jump out of bed, skip the shower, skip breakfast, slam the door, sprint to the bus, barely catch the train… and finally slump into the office chair, ready to tackle the 9 to 5 grind. Now you’re expected to be organized, creative, charismatic, high-functioning — but it’s much harder than it should be. You’re running at 50% capacity.

Sound familiar?

This was my life for a long time. Day after day, I wanted to change, but I didn’t have the effort to follow through. Then came one Saturday — a day that was supposed to be productive but ended up being the wake-up call I didn’t know I needed.

The Morning That Broke Me

I had big plans that Saturday. But my morning? It had other ideas. I snoozed my alarm — no exaggeration — for around two hours. By the time I finally dragged myself out of bed, I was angry, frustrated, and full of regret. I’d already missed a crucial part of my day, and, as usual, the rest of the day was a write-off too.

This wasn’t new. It was a pattern I’d fallen into:

Stay up too late

Wake up feeling foggy and groggy

Set multiple alarms because I couldn’t trust myself to wake up to just one

Snooze those alarms into eternity, squeezing every last second of sleep

Rush out the door, leaving chaos in my wake

Does it ring a bell?

That Saturday, something shifted. For the first time, I asked myself: Why is this happening? Why do I feel stuck in this loop? What do I actually want out of my mornings?

The Power of “Why”

It sounds a little cliché (okay, maybe a lot), but understanding my motivations was instrumental in changing my habits. I didn’t just want to wake up earlier for the sake of it, or because everyone else that is successful does it. And honestly... That clarity made a huge difference.

I realized that mornings weren’t just about getting out of bed — they were about what I wanted to feel & do:

Have a sense of calm before the chaos

Time to meditate

Spend time with my family

All in All — have 1 hour where I have complete control over my day

Once I understood my “why,” I saw that my biggest hurdle wasn’t just poor habits — it was that I didn’t have a system that worked for me.

Building a Solution
(Because Humans Are Weird)

That Saturday, I decided to create a solution for my lack of ability. (Let’s be real, mornings are hard.) Thats when MorninMate started taking shape — a product born out of my personal struggle to reclaim my mornings.

Are my mornings perfect now? Nope.

But they’re different. I feel more in control. I’ve learned to make decisions that protect my mornings — whether it’s saying “yes” or “no” to something the night before, or setting a clear plan of action for the next day.

MorninMate helps me stay on track. It gives me structure and accountability when I need it most. It turns tough mornings into something manageable, and dare I say… empowering.
